Critical reflections on all short assignments
A reflective overview detailing my learning progression throughout the Professional Golf Management coursework, analyzing how focused tasks shaped my practical communication, strategic thinking, and overall industry perspective.

Short Assignment 1 Reflection
Writing this syllabus analysis helped me understand the overall structure and expectations of English 1040. One of the most important things I noticed was that the course emphasizes writing as a process instead of something that is finished after one draft. The syllabus repeatedly focuses on research, revision, reflection, and editing, which shows that improvement is an important part of the class. I organized my analysis by first explaining the purpose of the course and then discussing its assignments, grading system, and expectations. This organization makes the information easier for a reader to follow, especially someone who does not have the syllabus in front of them. I also focused on the connection between the short assignments and the major assignments because the syllabus explains that they build toward Major Assignment One and eventually the final ePortfolio. Overall, analyzing the syllabus gave me a clearer understanding of what will be expected throughout the semester and how the different assignments connect to the larger goals of the course.

Short Assignment 2 Reflection
Doing this assignment helped me look more closely at the PGM program that I am already a part of. Since I am currently in the program, I already know about things like internships, the PAT, and the different classes we must take. However, this assignment made me think more about how those requirements prepare us for careers in the golf industry.
Talking to Keaton Green was helpful because he is also going through the program and understands what it takes to be successful. I agreed with his points about communication, working hard during internships, and understanding all parts of the game. Being in the program has already shown me that being a golf professional is about much more than just being a good golfer. You have to be able to work with customers, communicate professionally, and understand different areas of a golf operation. This assignment gave me a better understanding of why the PGM program focuses on developing all of these skills.

Short Assignment 3 Reflection
Completing this annotated bibliography helped me better understand how many different skills are needed to be successful in Professional Golf Management. Since I am already in the PGM program, I know that communication, internships, teaching, and customer service are all very important, but these sources gave me more information about why they matter. One thing that stood out to me was how much of the profession involves working with people. Whether you are teaching a lesson, running a tournament, working in the golf shop, or helping a member, you have to be able to communicate well and understand what the customer needs.
The research also connected with my interview with Keaton Green because he talked about communication, working hard during internships, and understanding all parts of the golf business. One strength of my annotated bibliography was that I used different types of sources, including academic articles and professional websites, to better understand the industry. However, one thing I could have improved was going into more detail about how each source would help support my major paper. I also learned that academic articles are written differently from professional websites because they usually include more research and formal language.
This assignment helped me improve my research skills and become more comfortable reading academic sources. It also taught me the importance of finding credible information instead of relying only on what I already know about golf. Overall, these sources will help me explain that becoming a successful PGA Professional takes much more than just being able to play golf.
Short Assignment 4 Reflection
This assignment helped me understand how different types of writing are used in the golf industry. Before comparing these sources, I mainly thought about communication in golf as interacting with members, giving lessons, and working with other employees. However, I now realize that written communication is just as important.
The academic article showed me how research can help golf professionals understand customer satisfaction and improve their facilities. The internship webpage showed me how important it is to organize information so students understand their responsibilities. I also noticed how the academic article used more formal language, while the internship webpage was more straightforward and easier to understand. This showed me how writing changes depending on the audience.
Since I am already in Methodist University's PGM program, I have experienced how important communication is during internships and daily golf operations. Whether I am explaining something to a member or communicating with coworkers, being clear and professional makes a difference. One strength of my assignment was identifying the differences between the sources, but I could have improved by including more specific examples.
Overall, this assignment helped me understand that successful PGA Professionals need to communicate with different audiences. It also improved my ability to analyze writing instead of just summarizing information.
